Calls To Open Borders Following Afghanistan Collapse Must Be Resisted

One Nation leader Senator Pauline Hanson has called on the government to resist the inevitable calls from Labor and the Greens to open Australia’s borders to a new flood of refugees following the collapse of order in Afghanistan.

“Bleeding hearts in Labor and the Greens would happily open the floodgates to a new wave of arrivals in their scramble for the far-left vote,” Senator Hanson said.

“Unfortunately, a generation of people from the region has been exposed to a fundamentalist ideology incompatible with life in Australia. Recent arrivals have been unwilling to assimilate into our way of life, and instead have been intent on destroying it.

“As Afghanistan descends into chaos under the Taliban, Australia doesn’t have the resources to properly vet anyone to ensure we’re not letting terrorists into our community.

“There are 44 other Islamic countries in the world better suited to Afghans fleeing the Taliban, while Australia is not in any position to accommodate a flood of them. We already have a housing crisis with a shortfall of 650,000 homes, skyrocketing public debt, growing urban congestion and massive dependency on welfare that has only been exacerbated by lockdowns and the COVID-19 pandemic.

“While Australia must provide a safe haven to Afghans who have worked directly with our forces, we must not open the floodgates to waves of undocumented arrivals again.

“After 20 years of conflict, which cost Australia 41 lives and billions of dollars, we again face the prospect of the Taliban allowing Afghanistan to be a base from which Islamic terrorists can operate with impunity.

“There are already obvious signs the Taliban today is no different to the regime which controlled Afghanistan in the 1990s. They have released thousands of terrorists from prison as they retake the country. We have to make sure they don’t threaten Australia.”
